Anti-Gang Initiatives

IIR’s research on street gangs has produced hundreds of publications for practitioners and researchers and, over the past 17 years, an unparalleled, continuous study of the scope of the national gang problem.  IIR’s extensive experience in support of anti-gang initiatives assists communities in developing multistrategy, collaborative initiatives.  In addition to extensive, in-depth experience with anti-gang programs, our network of subject-matter experts makes IIR a leader in training law enforcement officers in cutting-edge suppression techniques and developing new curricula to meet the needs of the field.

   IIR supports anti-gang programs by:
Anti-Gang Initiatives
  • Providing technical assistance to communities implementing model anti-gang programs, including those funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
  • Collecting data through surveys and other means to inform research on gangs.
  • Producing publications on promising and best practices in gang prevention, intervention, suppression, and reentry.
  • Maintaining a Web site featuring the latest research findings, manuals for practitioners, gang-related legislation, training opportunities,and tools for planning and implementing anti-gang strategies.
  • Developing curricula for structured training of law enforcement officers and community agencies collaborating on gang-related issues, including those in Indian country.
  • Providing logistical support for training events, workshops, and national conferences.
  • Coordinating a federally funded, school-based national gang prevention program.
