Senior Research Associate

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Research Associate to support research and survey activities of the National Gang Center (NGC). The NGC is operated by IIR on behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Responsibilities include independent and team-based work in the administration of national surveys, including methodological and operational tasks and statistical analysis of large data sets that have complex sample designs. Additional responsibilities include preparation of written summaries of research in the field, preparation of articles for scholarly journals, as well as, oral presentations.

Qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in criminology and/or sociology, or a closely related field; doctoral students will be considered. Knowledge and experience in survey research design and methodology and advanced quantitative data analysis is required. Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working with SPSS and large data sets. A basic knowledge of law enforcement structure and operations and familiarity with and/or involvement in gang research is preferred but not required. Candidate must possess excellent writing skills required to prepare survey results for dissemination to academicians, policymakers, and practitioners.

Final candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation consisting of a criminal history check, educational history verification, credit check, and personal and professional references.


Systems Network Engineer (Position located in Murfreesboro, TN)

IIR and the RISS Technology Support Center (RTSC) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Systems Network Engineer. Qualified applicants must have strong skills with Microsoft OS and applications, HP and Dell servers, SAN/NAS technology, virtualization, clustering, and blade chassis. Knowledge of Microsoft System Center and other monitoring tools, firewalls, and LAN networks is a plus.

Qualified applicants must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills exhibiting team spirit and initiative.

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related fields from an accredited college/university or a minimum of 5 years work related experience (commensurate with the position requirements).


Senior Database Administrator – (Position located in Murfreesboro, TN)

IIR and the RISS Technology Support Center (RTSC) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Database Administrator. Qualified applicants must possess strong skills in database development and administration, and an extensive understanding of Microsoft SQL Server (professional certifications are a plus). Skills must include experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Transact-SQL. Experience with Windows Clustering, Data Protection Manager, SharePoint, Active Directory, Team Foundation Server, GeoSpatial data, and ESRI ArcIMS/ArcGIS are a plus. Incumbent must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as a team player, as well as the initiative to work independently. The development environment is predominately Microsoft based, providing solutions in .NET and SQL Server. The development efforts include providing technology solutions related to web portal development, network infrastructure, network security, hardware, and the implementation of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software solutions for product development, management, testing and office solutions.

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields from an accredited college/university and five years’ work-related experience (commensurate with the position requirements). Professional application development experience may be substituted for the educational requirements on a year-by-year basis.
